About Us

OCEANATION came to my heart when BP's Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20, 2010. The subsequent oil spill in Xingang Port in China on July 16, 2010 was the final blow that made Oceanation a reality. I initially went online to look at alternative ways to dissipate the oil. I tried to find a general "ocean friendly" site for information. I couldn't find any. Why? Why couldn't I find a central resource where everyone has joined forces to help protect the oceans? A voice is carried louder and further than ever when we all team up together. Think of a cheer at a sporting stadium. Alas, OCEANATION was born. A central resource where we can all cheer together to make a difference.

OCEANATION is a non-profit organization focusing on "Greening the Big Blue". Please use this site as a resource for all things eco-friendly for our oceans. We will talk ocean friendly products, ocean news, sustainable fisheries, ocean friendly transport, travel, beach clean-ups, fundraisers, conservation directories, jobs and lots more.

Originally from Brisbane, Australia I have traveled the world around 3 times in the last decade. My adoration of the oceans is fueled by my passion for scuba diving. I learnt to scuba dive in the Balearic Islands with Sea Horse Sub-Aqua Dive Center. (Hi Jeff!) in 2004. I spent two summers exploring the med's finest dive sites. Incredible sandstone formations, caverns, swim throughs and haystacks are just some of what is offered for a Balearic diver. I continued on my round-the-world adventures once again.

Marriage to a wonderful Pacific North West native brings me to life here in Seattle, Washington. I currently work for a scuba shop where I am an Adventure Travel Maven and Dive Master. Soon to be Instructor! I get to live my dream, ignite new passions and create more ocean addicts like yourself.

Ocean conservation is greatly important to me as a person and a diver. I strongly believe "Knowledge is Power". Throughout this site, I hope to bring you knowledge and power to make a difference for our oceans.

Enjoy your time with us! I look forward to you visiting again. I am always open for improvement to the site. Please feel free to make any suggestions or comments by sending an email to elesha@oceanation.org.
